— Our Story

Built by a family who has walked this road.

For CEO Lou Scotto, addiction is a story he and his family know all too well. While Lou never struggled with the disease himself, his children have. To watch your children struggle with something so cruel and unrelenting is every parent's worst nightmare — and it became the fire behind everything Hope Ranch is today.

When his daughter Maggie was just 12 years old, she experienced her first overdose. His son — a war veteran — fell into the grip of addiction as a means to cope with PTSD from serving in Iraq. Having already lost one daughter in a car crash, the thought of losing another child was unthinkable. Lou and his wife spent a decade doing everything they could: rehabs, treatment centers, detoxes, family therapy, and everything in between.

"Recovery isn't about fixing what's broken — it's about remembering who you were before the world told you to forget."

What changed everything was Maggie's discovery of holistic healing. Yoga, breathwork, spirituality, and meditation transformed her relationship with herself and with sobriety. She traveled to India alone, studied at an Ashram under a Yoga Guru, and became certified in Reiki and Sound Healing. She pursued formal education in behavioral health and human services with a concentration in mental health — and with six years working in the addiction industry, she knew exactly what was missing in traditional care.

In 2024, Lou and Maggie opened The Hope Ranch. A combined effort of Lou's decades of business management and entrepreneurship, and Maggie's lived understanding of addiction and her expertise in holistic healing. Other family members joined in — building horse stables, designing systems, believing in the mission. It became the place Lou and Maggie had always wished existed: a true home for the hardest moment of someone's life.

— What We Stand For

The principles that guide every decision.

Integrity

We do what we say we will do. Honesty with our clients, honesty with families, and honesty about the hard work that recovery requires — no shortcuts, no false promises.

Compassion

Addiction is not a moral failure. Every person who walks through our doors carries a story we take seriously. We lead with empathy, not judgment — because we have lived this.

Transformation

Recovery is not merely abstinence — it is a return to purpose. Our programs are designed to rebuild identity, restore self-worth, and help each person discover a life worth living sober.

Community

The opposite of addiction is connection. We build a family — among clients, with staff, and through our alumni network — because isolation feeds addiction and community fuels recovery.

Accountability

Lasting change requires honest self-examination. We hold our clients — and ourselves — to standards of personal responsibility as the foundation of sustainable sobriety.

Hope

Every person who arrives at our gate is carrying the belief that things can be different. We exist to prove that belief right — and we will not stop until they can see it for themselves.

— The Setting

Ten acres of space to breathe, heal, and begin.

Our facility is not a hospital ward or a suburban office complex. The Hope Ranch sits on a secluded 10-acre property in Perris, California — a real working ranch in Riverside County where the environment itself is part of the treatment. Space, quiet, and nature are not amenities; they are clinical tools.

The ranch is home to horses, donkeys, goats, and chickens — all part of our equine therapy and animal-assisted healing programs. Clients are not guests observing nature; they are participants in it.

— A Unique Program

Purpose Projects: direction beyond sobriety.

Addiction strips away more than health — it strips away identity, purpose, and the belief that life has direction. Purpose Projects are our answer to that void. Every client is invited to identify a meaningful goal and pursue it during their time at the ranch.

Whether building something with their hands, starting a garden, learning a new skill, or completing a creative project — Purpose Projects is clinically designed to shift clients from survival mode into a life filled with intention and forward momentum striving for their own defined purpose.

"Through this process, clients shift from survival mode into a life filled with intention and direction."

Purpose Projects are chosen by clients. If you have a vision, we will help you bring it to life.

Yes. The Hope Ranch Recovery Center is a privately and family-owned residential addiction treatment facility. It was founded by Lou Scotto and his daughter Maggie Scotto in 2024. Other family members have also contributed hands-on to building and operating the ranch — including construction, operations, and administration.

The Hope Ranch was co-founded by Lou Scotto (CEO) and Maggie Scotto (COO). Lou's personal experience watching his children struggle with addiction, combined with Maggie's recovery journey and professional training in holistic and behavioral health, drove them to build a facility they wished had existed years earlier.

Several things: it's family-owned (not a corporate chain), it sits on a real 10-acre working ranch in Perris, California, and the founders have lived experience with addiction — not just business experience with healthcare. The program combines evidence-based clinical care with equine therapy, yoga, meditation, Reiki, sound healing, and the unique Purpose Project that gives every client a meaningful goal to pursue during treatment.

Yes. The Hope Ranch holds CA DHCS License #330220AP (expiring 9/30/2026), is Joint Commission accredited, and is LegitScript certified. All three credentials are independently verifiable through the issuing organizations — links are provided in our accreditation section above.

The Hope Ranch Recovery Center is located in Perris, California, in Riverside County. We are about 70 miles east of Los Angeles and 90 miles north of San Diego. The secluded ranch setting is intentional — it provides the peace, space, and nature that urban environments cannot offer. We accept clients from throughout California and across the United States.

The Purpose Project is a unique program at The Hope Ranch that invites each client to identify and pursue a meaningful personal goal during treatment — building something, learning a skill, starting a garden, or completing a creative project. It is clinically designed to restore identity, self-worth, and a sense of direction beyond addiction. It is submitted by clients and supported by our team.
